My ever changing moods

Iniziamo a scomunicare seriamente :-) Io non vedrei più la televisione, se questa non presentasse più voci fuori dal coro. Perchè credo nella frase di Voltaire “Detesto ciò che scrivete, ma darei la mia vita per permettervi di continuare a scriverlo” (che poi ho letto che sembra non sia di Voltaire, ma di una tale Evelyn Beatrice Hall; ma è un altro discorso). In altre parole, non si tratta di un gusto soggettivo rispetto alle trasmissioni in questione: mi possono piacere o meno, ma se vivo in una democrazia sono sicuramente d’accordo anche con il fatto che altri, che possono pensare diversamente da me, trovino spazio per esprimersi. Dico subito che per me è una scelta troppo facile: tempo fa si è rotta la televisione e non ho sentito il bisogno di aggiustarla, tra l’altro molti programmi si possono vedere sui siti delle varie emittenti. Onestamente, non sento la mancanza di nulla. Dei telegiornali?? D’altro canto, non sono pienamente convinta che un boicottaggio sia la forma migliore per esprimere il mio dissenso. Si tratterebbe* di un boicottaggio economico e simbolico, (forse). Il lato economico, in teoria, però è quello che mi crea più problemi: e quei poveri giornalisti, non totalmente embedded , che comunque lavorano? Quindi, mi dico, forse sarà meglio esprimere il proprio dissenso più generale, verso querele e domande non risposte, andando alla manifestazione del 19 settembre a Roma? Io alla fine ci andrò, sapendo e non dimenticando che alcune delle sigle che hanno aderito hanno partecipato per anni a lottizzazioni varie, che con la libertà di stampa hanno poco a che vedere. AntoEnglish Let’s start excommunicating :-) I would not see anymore the Italian State Tv (nor Mediaset for that matter), if it would not broadcast some "not aligned" TV programs. In Italyland now programs like Report, Anno Zero etc…, which in different degrees do not represent the "tyranny of the majority”, are experiencing some problems in being broadcasted. I would not anymore see RAI or Mediaset first of all, because I believe in what Voltaire presumably said “ I hate what you write, but I will give my life to make it possible for you to continue you to write” (a statement which I’ve read is not by him, but by Evelyn Beatrice Hall). Anyway, it is not a matter of personal taste – whether I like or not these tv programs. I think that, living in a democracy, I ought to agree on the fact that other people, who think differently from me, can find channels to express themselves. I must say that for me it is too easy: sometimes ago my tv broke up and I did not feel the need to repair it. By the way, many programs are available on their channels’ websites, and in all events, honestly, I don’t miss it at all. I’m not, however, convinced that to boycott is the best way to express my dissent. This* would -maybe - be both an economic and symbolic boycott. And in theory, I’m more worried about the economic aspect: what about those journalists, not embedded, which are still working there? So, I say to myself, it would maybe be better to express my general disagreement by going to a demonstration in favour of free press, which will take place next Saturday in Rome. I say general disagreement, as I am thinking not only about these TV programs, but also that over the last few days Italyland Premier sued two daily newspapers, La Repubblica and L’Unità. I will go, but I will remember that among the political organizations supporting the very same demonstration, there are some which have been very active in choosing journalists, not by merit, but by their political allegiance.
